Emory Dance Company Across Campus
Creative Movement Across Campus

What's new . . . How big of a role do the arts play at Emory? How do we communicate the richness of the Emory arts scene across the breadth of the University's schools, units and divisions? How do we strengthen and leverage these assets so that we continue the creative evolution of the arts? These are some of the questions that a group, led by Rosemary Magee, vice president and secretary of the University, and Leslie Taylor, executive director of the Emory College Center for Creativity and Arts, grappled with over the last 18 months. Documenting scholarly and artistic work at Emory, the findings, including goals and strategies, have been compiled in an "Arts Blueprint" to guide the Emory community for planning and dreaming in the years ahead. The Arts Blueprint Group invites you to read the report and welcomes your insights and feedback on the Creativity blog.

A Letter from the Rosemary Magee

Dear Artists, Innovators and Creative Thinkers,

As Creativity: Art and Innovation (CAI) wraps up its fourth year, we have seen new opportunities created for faculty, students, and staff to engage in activities, performances, scholarship, research, and conversations. CAI grants support faculty and graduate students in incorporating creativity and the arts into their teaching and research, and encourage undergraduates to participate in various programs and attend arts events on campus and in the Atlanta community (with programs such as Emory Arts Passport and Out There Arts).

We are also excited about continuing the flow of ideas that recognize—and celebrate—creativity and innovation at Emory with our Creativity Conversations series. Every academic discipline and artistic pursuit requires risk-taking and the ability to see beyond known boundaries. By sharing how this process works, we can acknowledge the creative process within each of us while connecting with one another as well as the great artists and thinkers of our time.

The Conversations have found a receptive audience at Emory and beyond. The events often attract standing-room audiences, and the digital versions of the Conversations, available on iTunesU and YouTube, reach an international audience.

As part of the University's strategic plan, "Creativity: Art and Innovation" is one of four framing principles that represent foundational practices designed to support the activities, plans, and programs throughout the University and help Emory connect to the wider community and society. Indeed, creativity and the arts have become both a public good and a benchmark of a truly great university. Please join us and the Emory College Center for Creativity & Arts as we continue to forge ahead in this transformative enterprise.
